Using an enhanced high-grade commercial polishing agent that has been hugely successful for years in other industries and applications, ScratchOut, in effect, repairs CD's and DVD's at the microscopic level by polishing the clear polycarbonate plastic, which covers the metallic platter deep inside the disc.

Even under normal conditions, this soft acrylic plastic can become scratched during daily use. Chemical Softeners: In general, products such as Memorex OptiFix or Maxell Disc Fixer are manufactured from petroleum-based chemical distillate's which are applied to the surface of an optical disc. The concept behind chemical softeners is that once the product has been applied to a plastic material composing CDs and DVD's, the product softens the top several molecular layers effectively melting away impeding portions of the damaged media.
